Hellen van Meene – The Years Shall Run Like Rabbits

A background story:

My daughter was a couple of years ago asked to pose for a photographer here in Heiloo. The Photographer was a mother from a girl in her ballet class and she was constantly looking for young girl models.

I didn’t know her and looked her up on the Internet. It turned out to be a very famous photographer/artist which is known all over the world with exhibitions running from New York to Tokyo, Germany and of course in Holland.

Hellen van Meene

Hellen told us that she was busy with a book (The Years Shall Run Like Rabbits) and she wanted to make some classic pictures of Alieke for the book. Hellen takes all her pictures with natural light, therefore she had planned the photo-shoot on a Saturday afternoon around two o’clock, because then there was a big chance that the sun would be shining through the window in a perfect way. And she was right!

The location was an old Mill in our town, which was empty and abandoned. The walls were rough and bare, and had signs from a long history, and it was cold in the building! It was end of November and Alieke had to wear a simple summer dress. She was shaking and having trouble keeping warm, but she did a good job. She has never posed before and thought it was a challenge to try it.

Final result:

The result is a beautiful classic picture of a quite serious girl. It almost looks like an old painting from the 16 century. We have framed the photo we got from Hellen and it now has a perfect place in the living room on the rough industrial dresser.

A lot of people don’t recognize Alieke on the picture because she is almost never so serious as here, but I like it anyway and I think she looks beautiful. I see her!
