Banana coconut Easter bunny cake Here in Holland, Easter always comes with a lot of sweets for a Easter brunch. It all starts with of course the chocolate eggs! Then we have different kinds of cakes, bread with a lot of sugar and luckily also some fresh fruit salads. Most of the time I prefer to make more healthy things, but for holidays it’s time for treats. The last couple of years I have made this Banana coconut Easter bunny cake which is ohh so cute and more important; ohh so delicious. I want to share my recipe with you today. The recipe is my own, but the bunny I saw on the Internet and thought it would make my girls so happy to have as a tradition for Easter. Here is what you need and what you do: Ingredients: 6 eggs 250 g sugar 2 tsp vanilla flavour 250…

Easter candlelight DIY In some countries the Easter holiday has already started, but here in Holland we first really celebrate it Sunday, the first Easter day and Monday, the second Easter day. That also means that I am still busy preparing small things for our coming Easter weekend. Yesterday I made these two very easy candlelight. I love the simplicity about them! The first one is very simple. It’s an empty eggshell with a tea light in. I placed it in a small tea light candlestick made out of concrete. You can also choose to put some moss around the candlestick to create the idea of a little bird nest, but this time I like to keep them simple because I make the second idea look more like a nest. This candlelight is made from an old kitchen jar. I started with placing some thick metal wire on the top…

Simple Easter traditions at home Easter is coming closer and my girls thought it was time to decorate our house for the coming little holiday. I am not really a big fan of all the decoration for Easter. It’s all a little bit too cute for me. But my girls love it all and therefore am I compromising for the happiness of them. I am more into preparing a good or special meal or brunch for Easter, but they want the whole package, which I also can understand. That is what makes these holidays extra special of course. One of the things I always do for Easter is decorating spring branches with Easter eggs and cute little Easter figures. It has become a tradition that we have to have every year. It’s a quite simple thing to do with a great effect. It immediately gives the room a touch of…

The smell of easy baked pan bread I just love the smell of this easy baked pan bread. There is really nothing like homemade bread and this is a bread which is so easy to make. You don’t even have to knead the dough. The special thing about this bread is that it needs to rise for about 12 hours and then you bake it in a hot pan with a cover. This way the damp from the dough stays inside the pan and you then get a beautiful thick crust around the bread. Crispy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. I guess you now think; 12 hours!! Forget it! Way too complicated for me! But listen! If you put all the ingredients together in a bowl in the evening and stir it gently around for a few minutes, you don’t have to do anything about…

Have you ever tried the ultimate green smoothie formula? If not, today might be the perfect day to try it. It’s Monday a new start of the week and it can be a new start to eat more healthy food. I love smoothies but don’t make it as much as I want to. I have decided to make a change in that and have found a lot of different recipes for smoothies. The other day I made this green smoothie made out of almond milk, spinach, banana, avocado and dry figs. It was amazingly delicious and gave me a boost for more. The recipe I found on Pinterest but can’t find it from it’s original website. I hope I do not offend anyone by showing the formula for a perfect smoothie here on my blog. Another good thing about making a smoothie is that is it so easy! Of course…

Today I want to show you my Leaf art made out of thread and nails. I love crafting and especially all different kind of craft. Sometimes I get my own ideas and sometimes I just want to make something I have seen somewhere else. Like this Leaf art I found on Pinterest right here. I thought it looked amazing and wanted to try to make this leaf for a long time. Now I finally did, and I must admit that it was not as easy as I thought it would be. There were not much instruction by the pictures, but I thought it couldn’t be that difficult. Well… it wasn’t really difficult, it was more that I needed to do some things better and more carefully and I needed to take the time. When I started I thought I would make it slightly different from the original. I love to…

From a mum to her daughters It is only a couple of month ago I closed my web shop with maternity gifts I had designed myself. Almost everything is sold, but I have saved a few special things, which actually never came in production. I still love the design very much and have decided to keep the last few products for my two daughters when (I hoop) they get their own children. I think that it could be something special for them to receive, when they become a mum like me. Today I packed it all carefully in strong plastic bags. I am going to store it in the attic until one of my daughters come and tell me that I am going to be a grandma. At the moment I can’t imagine me as a grandma yet. They are only 10 and 12 years old. But I do hope…

Flavour explosion Tandoori chicken naan pizza Today I want to share a really good recipe for a special pizza. A flavour explosion Tandoori chicken naan pizza! Almost every Friday I make homemade pizza for the family and we are all very crazy about our own pizza here. But when we eat it every Friday, we also need some variation for the toppings, other wise we would get bored of it. A while ago I tried looking for some new flavours and came across this recipe. It really amazed us all, because it came with an explosion of so many flavours and textures that at the same time combine so well together. First you have the soft naan bread with cumin and garlic. Then the quite spicy sauce and chicken with yogurt and at last the sweetness and softness of the mango!!! Next to that you also get a taste of…

Seeds – kitchen garden. Peppers – Zucchini – Radishes – Spring onions – Peas – Lettuce – Cucumber – Basil – Thyme – Oregano – Coriander – Parsley  Sage….. Preparing The spring is here and the sun is shining all over the last couple of day’s, and then I always get the urge to prepare everything in the garden for a beautiful summer. That also means that it’s time to start with the seeds for my kitchen garden. My daughter helped me the other day with planting the first seeds for my kitchen garden. I love to grow my own herbs and vegetables, but our garden is not very big so I need to make a selection of what I want. I have received a lot of seeds from family and friends, which didn’t do anything with the seeds or didn’t have the patience of trying to grow them. (You…

Preserving fresh herbs in the fridge Did you know that you can preserve fresh herbes in the fridge 2-3 weeks if you wrap them in a wet piece of kitchen paper towel? It’s true!! I have done it many times by now and it surprises me every time how long they stay fresh. I just love to use fresh herbs in my food and in the spring and summer I try to grow my own favourite ones in the garden. In the winter I mostly by a small plant to keep in my kitchen window, but sometime I also buy a little bunch, which is already cut of the plant. Most of the time I do not have to use it all for one dish and find it’s a pity to throw it away. So I have experience that you can actually store it for quite a long time in…

Roasted Beet, Baby Kale and Brie Quiche I just love the Internet and all the things you can find there. A while ago I came across this recipe ‘Roasted Beet, Baby Kale and Brie Quiche’ and made it together with my cooking club. It was just delicious and perfect for a side dish or as a main meal because it’s fills quite a lot. The smell of the quiche is so wonderful and strong from the very first moment you put the vegetable in the oven till the whole quiche is ready. Today Today I would like to share it with you as well because it a recipe where you can easily replace the vegestables for others. There are many different roots vegestables which would be just as lovely in this combination with the brie and Fontina cheese. You just need to try it out and see what works the…

Today I want to give you a DIY – From old retro breadbox to Scandinavian/Industrial side table. Years ago I bought this old bread box in a second hand shop for the children’s room. The girls had a lot of retro stuff in their rooms and it was a perfect storage for toys + I loved the flowers and the colour combination. However the girls and I are done with that much retro at home, and my daughters didn’t want it in their room’s any longer. I was thinking about bringing it back to the second hand shop, but…… then I got the idea of giving it a makeover. Because it is made of a metal material it would be a perfect object with an industrial kind of look, and the colour black would fit perfectly to my work area/room. Everywhere here in Holland you can find these kind of…

Hellen van Meene – The Years Shall Run Like Rabbits A background story: My daughter was a couple of years ago asked to pose for a photographer here in Heiloo. The Photographer was a mother from a girl in her ballet class and she was constantly looking for young girl models. I didn’t know her and looked her up on the Internet. It turned out to be a very famous photographer/artist which is known all over the world with exhibitions running from New York to Tokyo, Germany and of course in Holland. Hellen van Meene Hellen told us that she was busy with a book (The Years Shall Run Like Rabbits) and she wanted to make some classic pictures of Alieke for the book. Hellen takes all her pictures with natural light, therefore she had planned the photo-shoot on a Saturday afternoon around two o’clock, because then there was a…

Scary vampire girl for carnival Carnival is around here in Holland and my youngest daughters big wish is to be dressed like a Scary vampire girl. She has been watching a program on the television lately with a girly vampire and she wanted to be something like her. Together we looked through Pinterest and found the look she wanted. “Mum! Will you please make a costume like that for me?? Please!!!” No way around. No excuses!! I knew what I had to do. My daughter wanted to be a scary vampire girl and she needed my help. Lucky for her I also love to make costumes and in one day I made her this costume. She was so happy with it, and the other day we dressed her up with all the makeup for the perfect look as well. Tomorrow (Tuesday) they are celebrating carnival at school and then…

Make your own Granola Breakfast is one of the most important meals according to wise people, and I think that they are right. I really feel much better after a healthy breakfast than for instance after eating a delicious croissant. My favourite breakfast at the moment is yogurt with banana and Granola. I always make the Granola myself and often change from time to time with my ingredients. Oatmeal is always the base and the rest depends on what I can find or which mood I am in. I make my Granola with: Oatmeal Nut mix without salt (hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans and raisins) Dry fruit (plum, apricot, pear, apple) Mix of Super fruit and seeds (cranberries, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, goijberries and mulberries) Hemp seeds Lin seeds Chia seeds Sometimes I bake all the ingredients (except the fruit) 15 minutes in the oven, but moostly I don’t even bother.…
